Illumination Wines host the Carolina's best songwriters on the second Tuesday of each month in a cozy New Orleans speakeasy setting. Join us for an intimate evening of great original music at this free event. I look forward to hosting this showcase each month. On June 11, my guests will be Rick Bethel and Katrina Brown. Both are talented songwriters and performers. and the mix of styles should make for an engaging evening. Donations are appreciated.
About the Songwriters:
Fort Mill songwriter Rick Bethel is originally from Lindenhurst Long Island, NY (Birthplace of Pat Benatar). His songwriting, while at times about serious subjects, is often sprinkled with clever humor that captivates and entertains, with topics that range from Monkey's "Monkey See Monkey Do" to UFO's "I Wanna Believe". His Style of Americana and Folk music is rooted in the raw energy of Rock and soulful rhythm of Blues. A familiar face on the local music circuits, Rick has graced many stages, leaving a lasting impression with his live performances. He has been featured on Tiny Stage Concerts on YouTube. Rick creates a world where every song is a journey, every lyric a memory, and every performance an experience not to be missed.
Charlotte Singer/Songwriter, Katrina Brown refers to her musical style as “Peculiar Pholk Psongs”. The phrase describes her songs perfectly while also giving a nod to the English language by which she is endlessly amused. Katrina has been sharing her tunes for more than thirty years from California to Florida and most every place in between. She has released four albums independently and continues to connect with people via her music every chance she can. With hints of Melissa Etheridge and Joni Mitchell, Katrina’s music is a rhythmic delight with imagery-filled lyrics and memorable melodies that ring on in the listener’s ears. Rock Hill’s PJ Brunson hosts the monthly showcase and performs full-time in the Carolinas and beyond. Her brand of country-folk music can be found on three solo recordings available on CD and online at most digital platforms. Her songs often center on the universal themes of family, love, and life. PJ also performs original piano instrumental compositions with violinist Laurie Neal as the Celtic-Classical-New Age duo “Ananda”. For more on PJ, visit www.pjbrunson.com
